Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • - sugar, optional (i don't use)
  • 2-4 tablespoons herbs, optional
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

How To Make scones (irish soda bread)

  • Step 1
    Make a well in the center of dry ingredients and pour in buttermilk. Stir from the inside out, by hand.
  • Step 2
    Flour board and hands. Press out and shape dough. Brush top with egg wash. Cut into scones.
  • Step 3
    Optional: dip wedges into grated Cheddar cheese.
  • Step 4
    Bake 10-15 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
