The American Woman's Cook Book 1946

This was my ex-husband's grandmother's cookbook. Beside this recipe she wrote "GOOD, use 1/2 recipe". This is the recipe for a whole batch. I sure do miss her.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 c
    shortening
  • 1 c
    boiling water or scalded milk
  • 2
    eggs beaten
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    cold water
  • 2
    cakes yeast (see note below)
  • 1/2 c
    lukewarm water
  • 7 1/2 c
    sifted flour

How to Make Refrigerator Rolls

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine shortening and boiling water; stir until shortening is melted.
  2. Combine eggs, sugar and salt and beat in cold water.
  3. Soften yeast in lukewarm water.
  4. Combine the 3 mixtures and add flour.
  5. Cover and chill overnight. Shape, let rise and bake as for standard rolls. Makes 36
  6. The instructions for baking standard rolls says to bake in a hot oven(425) for 15 to 20 minutes.
