my husband favorite cornbread!

My husband, who is from the Northwest, never liked or ate cornbread.....so this Texas gal had to convert him!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 - egg
  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2/3 cup cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/2 can chopped green chilies
  • 1 cup milk

How To Make my husband favorite cornbread!

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Grease a cast iron pan (note: I have a Johnny Bread pan which has 8 sections, and you have crust on all surfaces!)
  • Step 2
    Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt and baking powder. Stir in your grated cheese, onions and chilies; then add your eggs, milk and oil. Mix until all ingredients are combined well.
  • Step 3
    Pour into prepared pan, bake for approx. 25 minutes or until brown on top. Let cool in pan about 5 minutes, then remove and have that butter ready!
