Ingredients

  • 4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    raisins
  • 2 tsp
    caraway seeds
  • 1 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp
    soda
  • 1/2 to 3/4 c
    water

How to Make Mabel's Irish Soda Bread

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, raisins and caraway seeds, and mix well.
  2. Combine buttermilk and soda; add to dry ingredients, mixing well. Add water gradually, stirring to form a soft dough.
  3. Spoon into a greased 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 400* for 55 minites. Cool in pan on wire rack for 5-10 minutes, then turn out onto wire rack to finish cooling.
