My family loves my frybread,(indian frybread). When I go home to visit my aunt, I have her make me her version and she likes my version. I hope you enjoy it. I technically don't measure things with measuring items. i use my eyes to measure but I want to share this so here goes...

prep time 25 Min
cook time 30 Min
method ---
yield 1 dozen

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons rapid-rise yeast(i use bread machine yeast)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water(h2o&milk works good too)
  • 3 cups oil for frying

How To Make leslie's indian frybread

  • Step 1
In a large bowl, mix all dry ingredients well. When mixed well, add warm water.
  • Step 2
Stir until you are able to knead dough until elastic. Let rest a few minutes in a warm microwave. (What I do to get a warm microwave is while I mix water in the flour, I turn microwave on until for one full minute)
  • Step 3
While dough is resting, I pour oil into a skillet to heat up. Then take the dough out of microwave and squeeze off a golf ball size piece of dough to knead and shape into 6 inch wide flat bread.
  • Step 4
Set in oil to brown on both sides and drain on a couple sheets of paper towels.
  • Step 5
    Serve with butter
