I had made bread before this, and it fell flat. I decided to change the recipe up and add a little more. The second time was the charm. I hope you enjoy it. I know my family and I sure do like it! This yields 2 loaves. But sometimes I like to use one 11 3/4 in x 5 1/2 in loaf pan and bake for 50 - 60 minutes.

Anyone apprehensive about making bread can bake a loaf of this honey whole wheat bread. This homemade wheat bread is a little dense yet still fluffy. There's a slightly sweet flavor to it from the honey. Cut a slice and smear it with a bit of butter. Yum!

Ingredients
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 3 cups warm water (110 to 115 degrees), divided
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 5 - 5 1/2 cups King Arthur whole wheat flour

Step 1In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in 3/4 cup warm water.

Step 2Add the oil, sugar, brown sugar, honey, salt, and remaining water.

Step 3Combine all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour in a separate bowl.

Step 4Add 3 1/2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Beat until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to form a firm dough.

Step 5Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.

Step 6Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top.

Step 7Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.

Step 8Punch dough down.

Step 9Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half. Shape each portion into a loaf. Place in two greased 9-in. x 5-in. loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.

Step 10Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 11Remove from pans to cool on wire racks.
