This is a family tradition recipe!! My dad's grandmother was from Ireland and she brought this recipe with her when she came to Texas.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 - eggs
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

How To Make irish soda bread

  • Step 1
    Mix flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Step 2
    Cut in butter until ressemblesa course crumbs.
  • Step 3
    Combine 1 beaten egg,buttermilk.
  • Step 4
    Stir till moist
  • Step 5
    On a lightly floured surface knead gently for 12 strokes.
  • Step 6
    On a greased baking sheet shape dough into 6 inch round loaves.
  • Step 7
    Cut a 4 inch cross, 1/4 inch deep on the top.
  • Step 8
    Brush with 1 beaten egg
  • Step 9
    Bake at 375F. for 35 min.
