Good easy bread that is crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. You don't have to have a cast iron skillet. You could use a sprayed baking sheet.

Ingredients
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 large eggs
- 4 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon each baking soda and salt
- 1 stick cold butter cut into slices
- 1 cup raisins
How To Make irish soda bread

Step 1Preheat oven 400 degrees. Place a 12 inch cast iron skillet on the second rack of oven.

Step 2Whisk the buttermilk and egg together. Set aside. Mix the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt together. Using a pastry cutter or fork add the cold butter and work the dough into course crumbs. Add the raisins.

Step 3Fold the buttermilk mixture into the dough. Mix well then knead for about 30 seconds. Roll into a large ball. Add the dough to the cast iron skillet. Cut an X in the top of bread

Step 4Bake for about 45 minutes.
