Ingredients

  • 3-3/4 c
    flour
  • 1-1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/4 c
    raisins, soaked in warm water and drained
  • 1-1/4 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/3 c
    margarine, plus 2 tablespoons

How to Make IRISH SODA BREAD

Step-by-Step

  1. Blend sugar and soft margarine, then add egg.
  2. Slowly add dry ingredients also adding buttermilk until blended.
  3. Flour your counter, place dough on flour and knead dough a few minutes - add drained raisins.
  4. Shape into a round form and put in cake layer pan that has been greased or sprayed with cooking spray.
  5. Brush melted margarine over the top and sprinkle a little sugar over the top.
  6. Bake for one hour at 350 degrees or until light golden brown and when tapped on bottom sounds hollow.
