My husbands mother always made this for her family and she gave me the recipe. My family loves it.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • one dash salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 teaspoons caraway seeds

How To Make irish bread

  • Step 1
    Soak raisins in hot water For 20 minutes. Pre-heat oven at 375 deg. You need an 8 or 9 inch heavy skillet
  • Step 2
    mix all dry ingredients together, add milk and sour cream gradually,drain and add raisins and caraway seed. Knead the dough until it is shiny about 15 minutes . Make a ball of the dough and put in skillet, flatten top and cut a cross in top. Bake for 55 min. You can also add candied fruit if you like.
