Ingredients
- 2 cups self-rising buttermilk corn meal
- 1/4 cup self rising flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 small onion, diced small or 6 green onions chopped small
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 - egg
- - canola or vegetable oil for frying
How To Make hushpuppies(kat's)
-
Step 1In a medium bowl add cornmeal, flour, onion, and garlic powder, mix egg and buttermilk together and stir into dry ingredients. (May need to add a little more buttermilk or water if to thick , you want it about a medium thickness)
-
Step 2Heat enough oil in deep fryer or medium size pot. I just set my heat between medium and high. let the oil get hot and drop batter by the tablespoon full into oil, I use a medium pot and do about 4 at a time, let brown on one side then use slotted metal spoon to flip, about 1 minutes per side, remove from oil and drain on rack or paper towels
