Deep Fry

Add to Grocery List

2 c
self-rising buttermilk corn meal
1/4 c
self rising flour
1 c
1 small
onion, diced small or 6 green onions chopped small
1 tsp
garlic powder
canola or vegetable oil for frying

How to Make Hushpuppies(Kat's)

  • 1In a medium bowl add cornmeal, flour, onion, and garlic powder, mix egg and buttermilk together and stir into dry ingredients. (May need to add a little more buttermilk or water if to thick , you want it about a medium thickness)
  • 2Heat enough oil in deep fryer or medium size pot. I just set my heat between medium and high. let the oil get hot and drop batter by the tablespoon full into oil, I use a medium pot and do about 4 at a time, let brown on one side then use slotted metal spoon to flip, about 1 minutes per side, remove from oil and drain on rack or paper towels
