hot water cornbread

This is the way that my mother made hot water cornbread to eat with fresh vegetables. When I cooked it, my kids ate all bread; no vegetables. This is also the way that she made her hushpuppies. She would just fry them in the hot grease after the fish had been fried.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain white corn meal
  • 3 tablespoons plain flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • - boiling water
  • - canola oil for frying

How To Make hot water cornbread

  • Step 1
    Mix all dry ingredients.
  • Step 2
    Pour in boiling water until mixture is of dough consistency.
  • Step 3
    Drop by tablespoons into deep hot grease until lightly browned. Drain well on paper towels.
