lad's flaky pie crust
(1 RATING)
This is another pie crust recipe I use sometimes, I've used it for years. If I know in advance I'm going to make pie crust,I put the flour& salt in the freezer for an hour before mixing the crust. Sometimes when I make a savory pie, chicken, pork or turkey,I add 1 t. celery seed or 1/2 t. garlic powder For sweet pie, sometimes I add 1 t. grated and minced lemon or orange peel.

Step 1Mix flour and salt together in a large bowl. Using a cheese grater, grate butter and margarine into flour, mix lightly to combine. The margarine will be a little soft and mix into the flour easily, the butter is firmer, pieces of butter is okay, makes the crust flakier. Mix in 3 T. water, then add 1 T. at a time, lightly mixing until the crust comes together. Form into 2 balls, flatten, wrap in plastic wrap, chill at least 15-20 minutes.
