- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2/3 cup water
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 2 - eggs
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- - fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
How To Make crispy green onion hoecakes

Step 1Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. On the stove top, heat a large skillet to medium-high. Add vegetable oil, wait a few minutes for it to heat up. Add 1/4 cup of batter at a time into the oil like you are making mini-pancakes. Fry for 3 minutes or until golden brown, then flip for additional 2 minutes, adding oil to the skillet as needed.
