Ingredients

  • 375g/13oz - sultanas
  • 50g/2oz - butter
  • 375g/13oz - self raising flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 250g/9oz - sugar
  • 2 - eggs,beaten
  • 325ml/12oz - hot water

How To Make canadian malt bread

  • Step 1
    put sultanas, butter and water in a pan, bring to the boil and simmer for 4 minutes. allow to cool a little.
  • Step 2
    mix together flour, bicarbonate of soda and sugar.
  • Step 3
    mix warm fruit mixture into flour mix.
  • Step 4
    mix in the beaten eggs.
  • Step 5
    grease two 450g/1lb loaf tins and put in the mixture, level the tops.
  • Step 6
    Bake in a moderately hot oven, gas 5,375f, 390c,for 1 hour.
