this is a 40yr old recipe from farm journal. this was my first cookbook given to me by my home ec teacher. this bread has only one rising with yeast and baking powder, buttermilk. so tender

Ingredients

  • 2 packages yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 4-5 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

How To Make c.d.q white bread

  • Step 1
    dissolve the yeast in the warm water. add the buttermilk( i zap in micro to take the chill off)now add 2 1/2 c flour, butter, sugar, baking powder, and salt. mix for 2 minutes. add the remaining flour to make a soft dough. dough will be soft and slightly sticky. knead for 5 min on floured board. roll out and roll up and put in loaf pan. let rise above pan and bake 375 for app 30 min
