buckskin bread

This is a traditional bread from my tribe that back in the day was baked in the sand next to a very hot fire. Today we add baking powder and salt and bake it in our ovens. It's wonderful with jam and butter! It's like a biscuit, but more dense.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 cups water

How To Make buckskin bread

  • Step 1
    Wisk all your dry ingredients together, then gradually add water to bring the dough together so it's solid, but not wet.
  • Step 2
    Knead for 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Spread it out flat onto a large cookie sheet, or in a cake pan so it's about 1/2" thick.
  • Step 4
    Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes
