This is a traditional bread from my tribe that back in the day was baked in the sand next to a very hot fire. Today we add baking powder and salt and bake it in our ovens. It's wonderful with jam and butter!
It's like a biscuit, but more dense.

How to Make Buckskin Bread

Step-by-Step

  1. Wisk all your dry ingredients together, then gradually add water to bring the dough together so it's solid, but not wet.
  2. Knead for 5 minutes.
  3. Spread it out flat onto a large cookie sheet, or in a cake pan so it's about 1/2" thick.
  4. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes
