The love of my life bought me a bread machine several years ago since I love to bake. I needed a loaf of french bread and thought I would play around with a recipe to see what I come up with. The recipe is a hit with my boyfriend and his father. They like it better than the store bought french bread.

Ingredients

BREAD DOUGH

1 1/2 c
water, warm
1 tsp
sea salt
2 tsp
butter flavor shortening
3 1/2 c
all purpose flour
2 tsp
active dry yeast

TOPPING

1
egg white
1 tsp
water
1 tsp
garlic powder
1 tsp
italian seasoning
2 Tbsp
cornmeal

How to Make Bread Machine French Bread

Step-by-Step

  • 1Place all bread dough ingredients in bread machine and select dough cycle.
  • 2When cycle is complete, remove dough and roll into a 12" x 15" rectangle on a lightly floured board.
    Roll up from long side and pinch seam to seal.
    Fold ends under. Place seam side down on a greased baking sheet that has been dusted with the cornmeal.
    Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise 45 minutes.
  • 3Make 4 diagonal cuts with a sharp knife across top of bread.
    Bake 375 degrees for 25 minutes.
  • 4Beat egg white, water garlic powder and italian seasonings, remove bread from oven and brush with egg wash.
    Return to oven and bake an additional 5 minutes.
