Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 5 large egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup oil
- 4 1/4 cups bread flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast for bread machine
- 1 cup raisins or chopped apricots
- 1 large egg, slightly beaten
- 2 tablespoons poppy seeds or sesame seeds for top of loaf
How To Make bread machine challah

Step 1Follow directions for making dough in your bread machine. Using first 7 ingredients layer them in bread machine pan. Turn on machine. Add raisins or apricots when dough begins to form.

Step 2When dough cycle is complete remove dough from machine. Divide in 2 halves. From each half form 3 ropes. Braid 3 ropes into a loaf. Repeat with second 3 ropes. Place loaves on greased cookie sheet. Cover. Let dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.

Step 3Brush the challah with the beaten egg. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or a combination of both. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
