This recipe was one of my favorites passed down from my mother. Whether on a rainy day with a hot cup of warm cocoa, or waking up to eat for breakfast, this bread is an instant classic!

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c
    flour
  • 2/3 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 2
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 c
    mashed bananas (2 medium ripe bananas)
  • 1/2 c
    pecans or walnuts, chopped (optional)

How to Make Mama's Banana Bread

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350*. Grease and flour 9x5 loaf pan. In large bowl, use a whisk and mix all dry ingredients.
  2. With a pastry blender, cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs.
    With a fork, stir in mashed bananas & eggs until blended. (Also add nuts here if desired).
  3. Spread batter evenly in pan. Bake 55 minutes to 1 hour until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
