This recipe was one of my favorites passed down from my mother. Whether on a rainy day with a hot cup of warm cocoa, or waking up to eat for breakfast, this bread is an instant classic!

Ingredients

1 3/4 c
flour
2/3 c
sugar
1/2 tsp
salt
1 tsp
baking powder
1/4 tsp
baking soda
1/2 c
butter, softened
2
eggs, beaten
1 c
mashed bananas (2 medium ripe bananas)
1/2 c
pecans or walnuts, chopped (optional)

How to Make Mama's Banana Bread

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 350*. Grease and flour 9x5 loaf pan. In large bowl, use a whisk and mix all dry ingredients.
  • 2With a pastry blender, cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs.
    With a fork, stir in mashed bananas & eggs until blended. (Also add nuts here if desired).
  • 3Spread batter evenly in pan. Bake 55 minutes to 1 hour until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
