I am copying this right from the recipe card my grandmother wrote for me. What a sweet memory for me of when I was a young bride! How sweet it is to see her handwriting and the note at the top "For Mary Ann". I remember eating these at her house for coffee.

  • 1 3/4 c
  • 4 large
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp
  • 3 c
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 can(s)
    cherry pie filling
  • ·
    powdered sugar icing

How to Make Cherry Coffee Bars


  1. Preheat oven to 350 and grease a jelly roll pan and set aside.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together and set aside.
  3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat again.
  4. Add dry ingredients and mix together well. Dough will be stiff.
  5. Spread dough, except for one cup (approximately) into a greased jelly roll pan.
  6. Top dough with pie filling and then with teaspoons of the remaining dough.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes until done. Check after about 45 minutes or so.
  8. Remove from oven and cool. Frost with powdered sugar icing as desired. Cut into bars and serve.
