cherry coffee bars
I am copying this right from the recipe card my grandmother wrote for me. What a sweet memory for me of when I was a young bride! How sweet it is to see her handwriting and the note at the top "For Mary Ann". I remember eating these at her house for coffee.

Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1 3/4 cups sugar
- 4 large eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- - powdered sugar icing
How To Make cherry coffee bars

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 and grease a jelly roll pan and set aside.

Step 2Sift dry ingredients together and set aside.

Step 3Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat again.

Step 4Add dry ingredients and mix together well. Dough will be stiff.

Step 5Spread dough, except for one cup (approximately) into a greased jelly roll pan.

Step 6Top dough with pie filling and then with teaspoons of the remaining dough.

Step 7Bake for 45-50 minutes until done. Check after about 45 minutes or so.

Step 8Remove from oven and cool. Frost with powdered sugar icing as desired. Cut into bars and serve.
