Wanted garlic bread with a basic spaghetti dinner and improvised by creating a whole wheat garlic dinner roll. Turned out excellent and thought I should share this wonderful, easy, and delicious dinner roll recipe.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

These fluffy garlic knot rolls will be your favorite side alongside a bowl of soup or a plate of pasta. They are a cross between a garlic dinner roll and a garlic knot. It's a great, basic roll recipe that has just enough butter and garlic. Another option for serving these is alongside warm marinara sauce for dipping as a snack.

Ingredients

  • GARLIC DINNER ROLLS
  • 1 cup water, warm
  • 1 package active dry yeast (2 Tbsp)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg white
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • BUTTER TOPPING
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 pinch garlic powder

How To Make garlic dinner knot rolls

  • Combine water, salt, sugar, and garlic powder. Sprinkle yeast and allow to stand for 10 minutes.
    Step 1
Combine water, salt, sugar, and garlic powder in mixing bowl. Sprinkle yeast across top of a large mixing bowl and allow to stand for 10 minutes.
  • Slightly beat 1 egg and 1 egg white in a small bowl and set aside for 10 minutes.
    Step 2
Slightly beat 1 egg and 1 egg white in a small bowl and set aside for 10 minutes or allow your eggs to become room temperature before beginning. The colder your eggs, the more you need a warm space to rise later when mixed.
  • Place 4 cups all-purpose flour on top of the dissolved yeast. Make a well in the flour and pour the beaten egg mixture.
    Step 3
Place 4 cups all-purpose flour on top of the dissolved yeast. Make a well in the flour and pour the beaten egg mixture.
  • Stir the mixture until it comes together and is able to knead.
    Step 4
Take a large paddle-shaped spoon and stir the mixture until it comes together and is able to knead.
  • Knead the bread while slowly adding the whole wheat flour.
    Step 5
Knead the bread right within the bowl. Adding 1 Tablespoon of whole wheat flour at a time, knead the dough until uniform (elastic-like stage). Not too dry, but to the point you can turn it without the dough sticking to your surface.
  • Lightly grease the bowl and add the dough.
    Step 6
Lightly grease your bowl, turning the dough to ensure it is greased.
  • Cover with a clean towel and allow to rise.
    Step 7
Cover with a clean towel and allow to rise. I turn my oven on "warm" for a few minutes and then turn it off, setting the covered bowl inside the closed oven. Let rise until doubled.
  • Punch down dough and start to form knots.
    Step 8
Take the dough and punch it down. Do not knead additional flour, but begin twisting off handful portions, pulling them into lengths and tying into a knot.
  • Place each knot into a greased muffin pan.
    Step 9
Place each knot into a greased muffin pan.
  • Cover with the same towel and allow to rise for about 15 - 20 minutes.
    Step 10
Cover with the same towel and allow to rise for about 15 - 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes.
    Step 11
Remove the pan from the oven. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes. My oven and darker pans only took 10 minutes.
  • Prepare the garlic butter.
    Step 12
    Prepare the garlic butter.
  • Remove rolls and brush with garlic butter. Place back into the oven and bake another 2 minutes.
    Step 13
Remove rolls and brush with garlic butter. Place back into the oven and bake another 2 minutes.
  • Remove from muffin tins onto wire rack and enjoy
    Step 14
Remove from muffin tins onto wire rack and enjoy.
