This delicious recipe came from my mom. It's good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Believe me, it won't be around for long. In my house, it's scarfed up in a day. There seems to be a lot of steps, but this recipe is easy to prepare. Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour-sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 - eggs, beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 pound pitted dates, chopped
- 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream, whipped or spread with some good butter

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2Line the bottom of a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan with waxed paper.

Step 3Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

Step 4In a mixing bowl, cream butter with brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Step 5Add beaten eggs to creamed mixture.

Step 6Dissolve soda in milk.

Step 7Add soda mixture and vanilla to creamed mixture.

Step 8Add chopped dates and nuts to FLOUR mixture.

Step 9Stir flour, date and nut mixture into creamed ingredients. Mix well.

Step 10Pour batter into the prepared pan.

Step 11Bake 50-60 minutes or until done.

Step 12Cool in pan 5 minutes.

Step 13Remove from pan and cool thoroughly on wire rack.

Step 14Once cooled, slice loaf and serve with whipped cream or butter.
