This delicious recipe came from my mom. It's good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Believe me, it won't be around for long. In my house, it's scarfed up in a day. There seems to be a lot of steps, but this recipe is easy to prepare. Enjoy!

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour-sifted
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 3/4 c
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2
    eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 lb
    pitted dates, chopped
  • 1/2 c
    pecans, chopped
  • 1 c
    heavy cream, whipped or spread with some good butter

How to Make Delicious Date Loaf -Connie's


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Line the bottom of a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan with waxed paper.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
  4. In a mixing bowl, cream butter with brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add beaten eggs to creamed mixture.
  6. Dissolve soda in milk.
  7. Add soda mixture and vanilla to creamed mixture.
  8. Add chopped dates and nuts to FLOUR mixture.
  9. Stir flour, date and nut mixture into creamed ingredients. Mix well.
  10. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  11. Bake 50-60 minutes or until done.
  12. Cool in pan 5 minutes.
  13. Remove from pan and cool thoroughly on wire rack.
  14. Once cooled, slice loaf and serve with whipped cream or butter.
  15. Enjoy!
