masarepa cornmeal
1 1/4 c
warm water
1/2 c
milk or buttermilk
4 Tbsp
butter, melted
1 tsp
2 Tbsp
1/2 tsp

How to Make Venezuelan Arepas


  • 1Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix all ingredients until smooth. Let sit 5-10 minutes so cornmeal absorbs liquid.
  • 2Form into 8-10 disks, about 3" in diameter. Repair small cracks in edges. If there are too many cracks, knead in some more liquid.
  • 3Lightly grease heavy skillet and cook arepas in batches until brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • 4Place on cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes.
