Ingredients
- 2 cups masarepa cornmeal
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Step 1Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix all ingredients until smooth. Let sit 5-10 minutes so cornmeal absorbs liquid.

Step 2Form into 8-10 disks, about 3" in diameter. Repair small cracks in edges. If there are too many cracks, knead in some more liquid.

Step 3Lightly grease heavy skillet and cook arepas in batches until brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Step 4Place on cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes.
