Our Mom was from Texas, so we were eating tortillas and enchiladas before anyone else around us even knew what they were. We used to help her make these tortillas for enchiladas.

How to Make Tortillas (for Enchilada Recipes)


  1. Mix cornmeal and water. Set aside and allow to cool.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients. Add a little flour if the dough is too sticky to roll.
  3. Roll into thin circles.
  4. Heat a very small amount of oil in a frying pan. Cook on both sides until brown bubbles appear. (The less oil, the better. Can also use PAM.)
  5. Use for enchilada recipes or any calling for corn tortillas.
