Ingredients

  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    margarine or butter, softened
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    nuts
  • 1 c
    chopped dates
  • 1 tsp
    orange peel
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt

How to Make Date Nut Bread

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oven to 350. Grease bottom only 8x4 loaf pan. In a large bowl, beat sugar, margarine until light and fluffy. Add eggs, blend well.
  2. In a small bowl, combine, nuts baking powder, baking soda and salt; well. Add to buttermilk mixture; stir just dry ingredients are moistened. Add dates & orange peel to mixture. Pour into greased loaf pan.
  3. Bake 350 for 55 to 65 minutes or until pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes; remove from pan. Cool completely. Wrap tightly and store in refrigerator.
