Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon orange peel
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

How To Make date nut bread

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350. Grease bottom only 8x4 loaf pan. In a large bowl, beat sugar, margarine until light and fluffy. Add eggs, blend well.
  • Step 2
    In a small bowl, combine, nuts baking powder, baking soda and salt; well. Add to buttermilk mixture; stir just dry ingredients are moistened. Add dates & orange peel to mixture. Pour into greased loaf pan.
  • Step 3
    Bake 350 for 55 to 65 minutes or until pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes; remove from pan. Cool completely. Wrap tightly and store in refrigerator.
