How to Make Cornbread
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Place shortening in a small cast iron skillet. Place it in the warm oven and heat until shortening is hot.
- While it is heating, put the soda in the milk and stir.
- Put corn meal, salt, egg and butter in a bowl. Add the milk mixture. Stir well.
- Remove skillet from oven. Carefully pour batter into the skillet.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until done.
