Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup yellow corn meal
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 - egg, well beaten
- 1 tablespoon shortening
How To Make cornbread

Step 1Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Step 2Place shortening in a small cast iron skillet. Place it in the warm oven and heat until shortening is hot.

Step 3While it is heating, put the soda in the milk and stir.

Step 4Put corn meal, salt, egg and butter in a bowl. Add the milk mixture. Stir well.

Step 5Remove skillet from oven. Carefully pour batter into the skillet.

Step 6Bake for 15 minutes or until done.
