  • 1 c
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 c
    yellow corn meal
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 1
    egg, well beaten
  • 1 Tbsp

How to Make Cornbread


  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Place shortening in a small cast iron skillet. Place it in the warm oven and heat until shortening is hot.
  3. While it is heating, put the soda in the milk and stir.
  4. Put corn meal, salt, egg and butter in a bowl. Add the milk mixture. Stir well.
  5. Remove skillet from oven. Carefully pour batter into the skillet.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes or until done.
