Makes about 25 biscuits
Ingredients
- 5 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 packages active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water (110 degrees)
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar, divided
How To Make angel biscuits
-
Step 1In a one cup measure pour in warm water. Stir in yeast and 1 Tbsp. of the sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes.
-
Step 2In a large bowl, sift dry ingredients including the remaining 2 Tbsp. sugar together. Cut in shortening. Add the yeast mixture and butter milk and mix well.
-
Step 3Since this makes a large batch, you can store it in the refrigerator for 7-10 days and pinch off amount needed.
-
Step 4Pinch off amount needed, knead a few times and roll to about half an inch. Cut out biscuits and bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
