spiced wine molasses biscuits

I love specialty breads for tea time or with a special soup. When you cook from scratch, the sky is the limit. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • DOUGH
  • 2 cups ultragrain flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 4 teaspoons dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dark molasses
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 cup butter flavor shortening
  • 1 - egg
  • 1/2 cup wine
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice, ground
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • TOPPING
  • - white sugar, for sprinkling
  • - poppy seeds, for sprinkling
  • - water or milk

How To Make spiced wine molasses biscuits

  • Step 1
    Mix all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Dump out onto a floured surface.
  • Step 2
    Knead for about 1-3 minutes. Press out to 3/4 inch thickness.
  • Step 3
    Cut with a floured biscuit or cookie cutter. Take remnants and re-press to 3/4 inch again. Keep cutting until all is used.
  • Step 4
    Place on greased cookie sheets. Wet tops with water and apply toppings. You may prefer to wet with milk, optionally. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes. While preheating your oven to 425F.
  • Step 5
    Bake for 7-9 minutes.
