Ingredients

  • DOUGH

  • 2 c
    ultragrain flour
  • 4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 4 tsp
    dark brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    dark molasses
  • 1/2 tsp
    sea salt
  • 1/2 c
    butter flavor shortening
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 c
    wine
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp
    allspice, ground
  • 1/4 c
    heavy cream
  • TOPPING

  • ·
    white sugar, for sprinkling
  • ·
    poppy seeds, for sprinkling
  • ·
    water or milk

How to Make Spiced Wine Molasses Biscuits

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Dump out onto a floured surface.
  2. Knead for about 1-3 minutes. Press out to 3/4 inch thickness.
  3. Cut with a floured biscuit or cookie cutter. Take remnants and re-press to 3/4 inch again. Keep cutting until all is used.
  4. Place on greased cookie sheets. Wet tops with water and apply toppings. You may prefer to wet with milk, optionally. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes. While preheating your oven to 425F.
  5. Bake for 7-9 minutes.
