all-purpose flour
2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
salt
1/4 c
shortening
3/4 c
buttermilk

How to Make Southern Buttermilk Biscuits

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • 2Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • 3Stir in buttermilk.
  • 4Knead dough gently.
  • 5Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  • 6Cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
  • 7Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • 8Bake at 450 degrees F for 10 - 15 minutes or until golden brown.
