southern buttermilk biscuits

This recipe was shared to me by Mrs Pauline Sharp who founded my childhood church.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

How To Make southern buttermilk biscuits

  • Step 1
    In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • Step 2
    Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step 3
    Stir in buttermilk.
  • Step 4
    Knead dough gently.
  • Step 5
    Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  • Step 6
    Cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
  • Step 7
    Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Step 8
    Bake at 450 degrees F for 10 - 15 minutes or until golden brown.
