How to Make Southern Buttermilk Biscuits


  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  2. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in buttermilk.
  4. Knead dough gently.
  5. Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 450 degrees F for 10 - 15 minutes or until golden brown.
