1/4 c
brown sugar, packed
1 Tbsp
baking powder
1/4 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
cream of tartar
1/2 c
butter-flavored shortening
2/3 c
whole milk
1 tsp
vanilla
1/4 c
softened butter
1/4 c
brown sugar
5 or 6 tsp
ground cinnamon

How to Make GOLDEN BROWN SUGAR BISCUITS

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • 2Grease baking sheet.
  • 3In a large bowl, combine flour, 1/4 c brown sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar.
  • 4Cut the shortening into the dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • 5Mix in milk and vanilla.
  • 6Knead briefly on a floured surface.
  • 7Gently roll dough into a large rectangle, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • 8Spread softened butter onto surface of dough.
  • 9Mix together 1/4 c. brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • 10Roll up tightly, and slice into 12 equal slices.
  • 11Place slices onto prepared baking sheet.
  • 12Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
