Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup butter-flavored shortening
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 5 or 6 teaspoons ground cinnamon

How To Make golden brown sugar biscuits

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Step 2
    Grease baking sheet.
  • Step 3
    In a large bowl, combine flour, 1/4 c brown sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar.
  • Step 4
    Cut the shortening into the dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step 5
    Mix in milk and vanilla.
  • Step 6
    Knead briefly on a floured surface.
  • Step 7
    Gently roll dough into a large rectangle, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Step 8
    Spread softened butter onto surface of dough.
  • Step 9
    Mix together 1/4 c. brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Step 10
    Roll up tightly, and slice into 12 equal slices.
  • Step 11
    Place slices onto prepared baking sheet.
  • Step 12
    Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
