Ingredients

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar, packed
  • 1 Tbsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 1/2 c
    butter-flavored shortening
  • 2/3 c
    whole milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1/4 c
    softened butter
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 5 or 6 tsp
    ground cinnamon

How to Make GOLDEN BROWN SUGAR BISCUITS

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Grease baking sheet.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, 1/4 c brown sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar.
  4. Cut the shortening into the dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Mix in milk and vanilla.
  6. Knead briefly on a floured surface.
  7. Gently roll dough into a large rectangle, about 1/2 inch thick.
  8. Spread softened butter onto surface of dough.
  9. Mix together 1/4 c. brown sugar and cinnamon.
  10. Roll up tightly, and slice into 12 equal slices.
  11. Place slices onto prepared baking sheet.
  12. Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
