baking powder
1/2 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
12 Tbsp
unsalted butter, cut into 1/2 inch pieces and chilled

How to Make Cornmeal Biscuits


  • 1Set oven to 450 degrees. whisk cornmeal, buttermilk and honey together in large bowl, let sit for 10 minutes.
  • 2Pulse flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in food processor until combined, Scatter butter evenly over top and continue to pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal, . Add flour mixture to buttermilk mixture and stir until dough forms.
  • 3Turn dough out onto lightly floured counter and knead until smooth, about 8 times. Pat dough into a 9 inch circle, about 3/4 inch thick. cut with 21/2 inch biscuit cutter.
  • 4Bake until biscuit begins to rise, about 5 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 400 degrees and bake until golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes longer. Let biscuits cool for about 5 minutes on pan, then transfer to cooling rack, Serve warm.
