Ingredients

  • 8-10 large roma tomatoes, seeded and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons red onions, finely chopped
  • 2 large cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, plus more to brush
  • freshly ground black pepper, to taste (i always use mixed peppercorns)
  • 1 small pinch ground himalayan sea salt, or to taste
  • 1 - loaf french baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch thick
  • high quality aged balsamic vinegar, to drizzle

How To Make italian style bruschetta

  • Step 1
    In a medium bowl, combine chopped tomatoes, red onion, garlic, basil, red wine vinegar, oil, black pepper and salt. Stir well and let the mixture sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Transfer to the refrigerator for 45 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Slice baguette and place on a baking sheet. Lightly brush side up with oil (one side only). Transfer under the broiler and toast for 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Step 4
    Remove from the heat and place the bread slices on a serving plate. Spoon tomato mixture over the slices and then drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Serve immediately.
