We are all probably familiar with pork rinds… well, these tasty treats are more akin to bacon. You go shopping for chicken, and there is a sale on skin-on chicken thighs, so you purchase a bunch; however, the recipe you have calls for skinless thighs. So, you strip off the skin, and throw it away… don’t do that. Stick it in the freezer, and when you have a bit of time, make some yummy baked chicken skins. This recipe is totally easy/peasy. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • - the skin from the breast or thighs of a fresh chicken
  • - salt, kosher variety
  • - black pepper, freshly ground, to taste
  • - olive oil, extra virgin
  • ADDITIONAL ITEMS
  • - a good dipping sauce, like honey, or good mustard

How To Make snack essentials: baked chicken skins

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
    Gather your ingredients.
  • Step 3
    Spread the chicken skin out on a flat surface, and sprinkle with some salt.
  • Step 4
    Allow to rest for 30 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Place a rack in the middle position, and preheat the oven to 325f (165c).
  • Step 6
    Use a paper towel, to wipe off the salt, and any moisture that has accumulated.
  • Step 7
    Cut the chicken skin into strips; similar to slices of bacon, brush with the oil, and sprinkle of a bit of pepper
  • Step 8
    Place a cooling rack on a baking sheet, lined with parchment paper, and lay the chicken skin on the rack.
  • Step 9
    Place in the preheated oven, and bake until nice and crisp, about 35 – 45 minutes.

    PLATE/PRESENT
  • Step 11
    Serve with some honey, or mustard. Enjoy.
