my oven fried cheese balls
Well guys and gals, I'm still on a health kick; but had to find a recipe for cheese balls. Thanks to my good neighbor's recipe I made these last night and what a good tast with out the calories. Regular recipe for these are 84 fat grams and 1060 calories. Well folks, these little treats are only 5 grams of fat and only 177 calories. What a big difference and still have a wonder taste on what use to be one of my favorite things to order while dinning out. Well no more. These are a keeper and I will be making them again for sure. Only hard part of eating these is watching not to eat them all.

Ingredients
- 1 cup frozen chopped onions and peppers, defrosted
- 4 ounces (about 1 cup) shredded 50% cheddar cheese, such as gabot
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- - salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat panko bread crumbs
- 2 large egg whites
- - nonstick cooking spray
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon chopped pickled jalapenos (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
How To Make my oven fried cheese balls

Step 1Preheat your oven to 450

Step 2Place a wire rack on a foil-lined baking sheet and set aside.

Step 3In a medium bowl,mix to pepper and onion mixture with the cheese and cornstarch.

Step 4Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5Form this mixture into 8 balls, squeezing out any excess liquid. (the balls will seem loose)

Step 6Transfer the balls to a plate and freeze for at least 15 minutes or until firm.

Step 7Put the flour in a shallow dish. Put the pando in another shallow dish.

Step 8In a medium bowl, whip the ege whites with a whisk until they are extremely foamy but not quite holding peaks.

Step 9Remove the cheee balls from the freezer. Working in batches, dredge the cheese ball in the flour, shaking off any excess.

Step 10Add the cheese balls to the egg whites and toss to coat them competely.

Step 11Add the cheese balls, a few pieces at a time. to the dish of panko and coat completly.

Step 12Spread the balls on the wire rack and spray them lightly with cooking spray.

Step 13Place in oven and bake until the reading is golden brown and crispy, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Step 14Meanwhile, combine the applesauce, jalapenos (optional) and mustard in a small bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste and stir.

Step 15Remove the cheese balls from the oven and serve with the sauce.
