fettucini a l'americaine

This recipe is a variation of a similar Italian one that I enhanced to my taste over the years from being in North Carolina.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 package barilla fettucine pasta
  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 1/4 cup fresh grated asiago cheese
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
  • 3/4 cup cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 teaspoons salt

How To Make fettucini a l'americaine

  • Step 1
    Cook pasta according to the direction. I always cook mine all dente... In the meanwhile in a medium saucepan melt the butter over medium heat. Gradually add the cream cheese, half and half and parmesan cheese stirring slowly until blended.
  • Step 2
    Continue heating the sauce stirring constantly (I use a whisk)just until it reaches boiling point.
  • Step 3
    Remove from heat and add salt and pepper.
  • Step 4
    Toss hot pasta into the sauce. Sprinkle parsley on top if desired. Time to delight with my American variation.
