This recipe was given to me by a lady at church. It was her mother's recipe from 1910.

Ingredients

  • 2 c
    cornmeal
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 Tbsp
    oil
  • 2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar (optional for sweet cornbread)

How to Make 1910 Cornbread

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat Oven to 400 Degrees
  2. Grease a large iron skillet with shortening. Mix all ingredients and pour into iron skillet. Bake 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
