I added a drizzle of amaretto to the sugar in the fresh strawberries and in the frosting and couldn’t resist adding more strawberries to the icing. I hope it’s a hit because it sure looks delicious!
Mama Steward’s Strawberry Cake
This cake is so moist and delicious, my husband and I loved it!
This cake recipe is so so good, and I had fun making it…I added some pecans, (not that I needed to), it would have been great without them!
I love nuts
It was obvious to me too, Annette. Sometimes people only look at the last comment and don't read the whole thread. On one thread there were two or three ladies named "Nancy" and one of them made a nasty comment and someone called her on it and referred to her as "Nancy" and one of the other Nancy's was offended. That's why I usually address people by first and last name so everyone knows who I am referring to. That way even if it is obvious to some...it will be known to all! Just letting you know what I do and why. 7/12/13
@Liz...years ago when my Mom made this cake she'd always poke holes into it straight out of the oven because she wanted it to soak into the cake.
That's they was my Father liked cakes (this was way before the "poke cakes" were known for that.
Girls,
In all fairness I thing Annette was referring to JANET FALLICO's comment, that was, and I quote: "I do not like this photo"
Annette: If you are referring to my comment "the frosting on this picture looks too runny", I was not being critical. I was merely commenting, hoping someone would offer a response since this would have been my first time making the cake, and as you can see, I've made it several times since and have noted how wonderful the cake is. Shame on you. Gee whiz
I myself was NOT speaking negative of this ladies cake. I am a baker and I have applied icing too soon and it may seem like its too runny but when its cooled or by the next day its fine. I was trying to help her out myself. So shame on yourself for assuming...and to you Ms. Beam your cake looks just fine.
I think the picture looks just fine. Perhaps this is the way she prefers her frosting. Who are any of you to criticize her anyway? Shame on you. That is not how we behave on this website when it comes to recipes or photos. If we don't like something, we simply don't comment.
I've made this recipe twice this week; all for parties. made cupcakes, etc. This receipe is so frick'n awesome and the frosting tastes just like strawberry ice cream! I just need to figure out how long to keep the cupcakes in the oven. First time I made the regular sized cupcakes, and left them in too long. They were still greatr, but a lil dry (my fault). Last night I made 40 JUMBO sized cupcakes and 10 regualr sized for a graduation party tonight....I licked the spoon, and went back a few more times for more licks!
Liz, I used a cup of drained Strawberries in my icing instead of 1/2 cup and it wasn't runny at all. Maybe her cake wasn't all the way cooled off when she applied her icing. We also didn't eat the cake until the next day after I had made it.
The frosting on this picture looks too runny. Maybe I will try making but with not as much strawberries so it doesnt get too runny. Will try making the cupcakes tonight.
I will make this cake, sounds and LOOKS delicious. I am going to add Philly Cream Cheese to the icing. In the comments, a lady said she bakes this cake, only difference was ADDING the cream cheese to the icing. Thanks for sharing. I will post again AFTER I Bake & Eat it!
