Judy, Thanks for your kind words. Every time our family hears news of these children reaching young adulthood and enjoying a pretty normal life, it is an encouragement to those of us who are still in the beginning stages of dealing with port wine birthmark issues. We are so thankful for the progress our James has made in his five years of life and look forward to him growing into young adulthood and being a productive adult. He already is happy. In fact, he's the happiest little five year old I know. Most kids like James are very happy. They have endured a lot; but remain content. We can learn a lot from them, I think. Anyway, thanks again for your encouragement. God bless you. {{HUGS}} 9/8/13
Actually she is a young adult now and coping very well although the results were not as great as they might be today. We were just so happy that they could do enough that she was able to live a pretty normal life. Had it not been for the procedures she had she may not have lived to adulthood.
Your grandson is such a beautiful child I hope he grows to be a happy, productive adult.
So sorry to hear about your friend's little girl. These children have a lot to deal with...as do their parents. Other children like my grandson have had hemispherectomies (removal of one hemisphere of the brain) because they were unable to control the seizures with meds.
How is your friend's little girl today? Perhaps laser surgery would be an alternative for her...or is that the kind of 'surgery' you are talking about? 9/7/13
My friends little girl had port wine birth marks covering most of her face and the inside of her mouth. It was a very serious thing and she went through many surgeries. Many in and on her mouth and lips. I will pray for your precious little grand son.
I think you mean my grandson, James. He is the one with the port wine birthmark on 65% of his body. The laser treatments that he has gotten and is still getting seem to be helping. They are causing the birthmarks color to fade out some and hopefully they will prevent the development of thickening of the skim and blebs. Some people think that the laser treatments are only a cosmetic issue but they go beyond that.
Except for seizures once-in-a-while, James is going pretty good. He is pretty much bathed in prayer and God has been good to answer. Thanks for asking. Hugs, Rose ;) 9/7/13
Rose I just ran across this while looking in the non-edible category. How is Jason doing now. In my day you just had to live with port wine birthmarks. I am so happy they can do something for them now. ;) Judy
