This is the second time that I've made this pie. This time I melted the butter. I think I like it better the other way; but both ways this pie is DELISH! 11/23/13
Out of the oven in 48 minutes. Sure does look fantastic...and smells good too! After it cools to room temperature, I'll put it in the fridge until tomorrow morning when I transport it to church. 11/06/13
1 T sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon mixed together in the small ramakin. 1 C flour, 1 C sugar, 1 egg a pinch of salt and 1 1/2 sticks of butter...mixed in the yellow bowl. 11/06/13
Half hour later the dish was scraped clean. My husband said this was better than any apple pie he has ever eaten. It is easier, and I would prefer to make this in the future.
Here is my picture of "your" Swedish Apple Pie. I used double the apples because my pie dish was much bigger. Although I did not use more of the topping mixture. It still came out "wonderful" ~!!!
Carol I agree you just spread it on and magically it melts and you end up with a sponge and a beautiful crisp crust on top. It works just follow the recipe is my advice too!!
My goodness Peter ~ this is the easiest recipe you will ever come across ~ in the directions you CAN melt the BUTTER, I have done it both ways, no problem, just spoon the batter on top if to thick it will melt in the oven and cover your fruit ! This recipe has been tried and approved by 100's of people and even the Kitchen Crew thought it worthy of a blue ribbon. Sooo maybe you did something wrong, ya think?
did exactly what you said - the batter is not a batter it is very thick - you did not even melt the butter so how did 1 egg turn a cup of flour and a cup of sugar into a batter?
Maybe there should be milk there somewhere but i dont know
So glad Annette, I notice you called me Anna, but guess what? I have done the same thing on others recipes ~ haha old age as you say !! I am going to try this one day with a different fruit would love to know how it will be ~ someone put the mixture into individual glass pans and she said they came out great, which is another great idea. :)
Sorry Carol I left a comment and called you Anna so sorry I think it's old age!!
Your recipe turned out so great, my husband loves apple pies and thought this was lovely.
It is so good will make it for my grandsons who also love apple pies.
Haha, what a great story to share with me, love it ~ Mine doesn't last long either, so good warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream ~ Men I think love pies ~ thank you Deby for sharing that with me !
I called my son that lives across the street to come down, and get half the dish, that was left. When he walked in the kitchen, my husband jumped out of his seat, and asked what he was getting. When I told him he was taking the remaining half, he had a fit. He scooped some to put in a container for his lunch tomorrow, and I had to promise to make it again tomorrow. Then he said, better make 2. LOL!
SOOOOOOO just ate the stuff, and if I weren't so full I could finish the entire dish. It is really great!..Don't need the ice cream..and yes I will try cranberries too...WHen I took the pic, it was a just underdone, so I had to put it back in the oven for 15 min. Prob. cause I had so many apples. I also had fresh eggs that were smaller, so I used 2. It does remind me of the cobbler on the back of (I think) Southern Flour-Self Rising Flour. Unfortunately my son is allergic to gluten, and apples...leftovers. ;-)
So glad you got back to me Deby, looks yummy ~ I think I may try cranberries in mine ~ I have lots and I think raisins would be perfect as well ~ I love that its so easy, we have picked some apples up in the western part of Mass. Going to be making this soon again myself !
It just came out of the oven. I have never tried the photo/comment thing, so hope it works. It looks wonderful. Our apples were picked at an orchard, and the 4 I used were huge! Ida Red Baking apple...wish we had some vanilla ice cream. Next time I may add some raisins that I pre-soak in hot water(or rum!), cause I love them in my apple pie! Thanks Carol!(dinner was great)
My pot roast is done, and acorn and butternut squash, and carrots in the oven roasting. I will start on the apples near the end! I make No Fools Cobbler on the back of a Self Rising Flour bag, similar ingredients, I make with plums and rasp./black berries...Great!..updates ahead!..
