I've made this several times, always leaving out the nuts (eww). The only other changes I did were to take about 1/4 to 1/3 of the batter out and tint it, then layer and swirl it into the bread pans. I also use about 1 tsp of orange extract to up the orange flavor and use the orange use over the top in a powered sugar glaze.
I ahve also subbed out the orange extract, peel, and juice for lemon flavor. The possibilities are nearly endless.

Can't wait to try this. I love cream cheese in bake goods. It makes them soooo dense and creamy. And I LOVE THE TASTE OF ORANGE. I am going to use pecans, only because I am allergic to walnuts. Thanks for the recipe!! Have a Blessed day.

Have made this a few times, and it is delicious !! Just don't try to handle it while still warm, cause it will break apart, let cool completely..

I want to make this recipe however, I don't want to use shortening so can I substitute it with butter?

Good idea, Hucky. Some of my grands have severe nut allergies, so the walnuts would be out for me anyway. Was wondering what to add in their place. Thanks!

looks like it came out just about perfect. And don't worry about that green lid...they're nearly complimentary colors! I'll be making it with Craisins, can't wait!

Oh I don't know, Wendy -- I think the green sets it off just right. I, too, am a dog lover; between pets right now but filling the emptiness by pet sitting for a friend. Keep sharing those great recipes!!

Hi Linda...lol It just would have so much better on a pretty plate verses the ugly green lid...I guess if I wouldn't have said anything, it may never have been noticed! lol For Sure This is Good Bread Though!

I am a dog lover...I have a business making dog collars, its called snooks k9 designs ...I don't do it so much anymore though, as I have some hand problems that prevent me from sewing as much. And I spend to much time in the kitchen creating recipes!!! :o)

What ugly lid, Wendy?? This looks so good; I can't wait to try it, too! I see your screen name has "k9" in it -- are you a dog lover, or a K9 partner?

What kind of shortening do you use? I want to make this cake but don't know if I should use butter or crisco.
