Since I Was Taking This To Church For A Get Together, I Had To Melt The Chocolate Chips With The Heavy Cream And Put It On Top Before I Took It. I Sprinkled About 1/2 Cup Of Toffee Bits On Top. Yummy!!

Ahhh Melissa, this cake is superb. It has the texture I crave when I want something gooey-sweet, rich and sinfully delicious. Now I will know exactly what to make. Usually, I end up with a candy bar... no more! LOL! So I will stop plastering my picture on your site but know this has become a favorite in my recipe book. Back for 1 more tiny piece and another cup of coffee. :)

Eureka! I found the dulce de leche! Thanks for your help girls! My cake is cooling as I sit here making this notation. The house smells devine. A very well known chocolate company has the leche in squeeze bottles, just like their chocolate.

You can use it for more than just this cake. Do a power search and you'll find it in several recipes. I have made a cheesecake with it in the past; I'll have to search around and see if I can find that recipe.

Also, check for a small independent Spanish or Mexican market locally. They seem to be cropping up all over the place now. I get mine at Kroger, but I've also seen it at Walmart and Ingles. I'm sure that if I can find it in Clinton, TN, you should be able to get it somewhere near Hickory, NC. When you do find it, get a half-dozen cans. It keeps a really long time.
How well I remember Hickory as a child. We used to stop there on our way to White Lake for family vacations.

Hi Frances! Dulce is found in almost any grocery store in the Hispanic foods section [including Walmart] It's also available at Williams Sonoma and World Market if you have one of those nearby. It's sweet of you to comment, I hope you enjoy! :)

Weelll, I guess I will just have to make my own dulce de leche. Man, I dread that but these pictures have made my mouth water for weeks now and my jaws are starting to hurt! I have been to 4 grocery stores and had half the staff looking for the prepared leche. What started out as wanting, turned into MUST HAVE! Wish me luck!!! From drooling over the pictures, I know the cake will be just as good as manna from heaven. :)
