While I have not tried this recipe Im well known for my corned beef and cabbage I have found the easiest and most tender meat is using slow cooker add all liquids and spices including opening the spice packet most corn beef company's includ and adding to meat start slow cooker on high for about I hour then turn to low and cook for 8-10 hours. I cook my meat overnight move juices to large pot and cook veggies until done when I'm ready to serve. While veggies cook I scrape off all FAT.
Meat is good cold served with hot veggies or you can heat if you perfer

I was going to ask about the spice packet too, as it's not very clear in the instructions.

On step two she said to add contents of spice packet. Does she mean the garlic & bay leaves?
