Looks like you've figured it out, Vickie! This loaf looks awesome. Your choice of beer can effect the actual color of the bread: pale ale makes it lighter, stout gives a darker appearance. Was this one more tender than your first? I have to say this IS a very dense bread with quite the crunchy crust (although the one you made here looks like it won't require an electrical knife to saw through it). Make sure you're using leveled, un-packed scoops of flour as you measure it out, and mix only until ingredients are combined to avoid toughening the batter up.
