FDA Updates Recall on Grated Cheese Recall Due to Listeria Risk

Ambrosia Company Cheese Recall

On January 6, 2026, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced a high-risk nationwide warning for several recalled cheese products due to listeria risk. Products were sold nationwide between November 3 and November 20, 2025.

While the initial recall from The Ambrosia Company was on November 25, 2025, on January 6, 2026, the FDA classified it as Class I. Class I states, “there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, the produce will cause adverse health consequences.”

The recalled cheese was distributed in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

  • Boar’s Head Grated Pecorino Romano 6 oz cup – expiration dates 03/04/26, 03/12/2026
  • Member’s Mark Pecorino Romano 1.5 lb bag – expiration dates 03/25/26, 03/30/26, 04/05/26
  • Locatelli Grated Pecorino Romano (sold by the pound) – expiration dates 03/04/26, 03/06/26, 03/11/26, 03/13/26
  • Ambriola Grated Pecorino Romano (sold by the pound) – expiration dates 02/28/26, 03/04/26, 03/11/26
  • Pinna Grated Pecorino Romano (sold by the pound) – expiration date 03/11/26
  • Boar’s Head Pecornio Romano Grated Bag (sold by the pound) – expiration date 03/03/26, 03/12/26

No other Ambriola, Locatelli, Member’s Mark, Pinna, or Boar’s Head products are included in the recall.

What To Do If You Have the Recalled Cheese

At this point, no illnesses have been reported yet. However, they note it could take up to 2 months for symptoms to appear. Contact your health provider if you notice any symptoms, including high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
