If you’re looking for an adorable and easy Christmas dessert, look no further than these Easy Christmas Tree Brownies from Debbie at One Little Project At A Time. They are simple to make and the kids can help too. We’ll give it away now… they’re a very tasty Pinterest pass and we think they’ll be a sweet addition to the dessert table.

Gather the Ingredients

  • 1 box brownie mix (choose your favorite), 18 oz.
  • 1 tub white frosting, 16 oz.
  • Green food coloring
  • 1 box candy canes
  • Nonpareils Sprinkles (multi-color)
  • Star sprinkles
  • Resealable plastic bag (or plastic piping bag)
  • Aluminum foil
  • Non-stick spray

To Make Christmas Tree Brownies

Line an 8×8 baking pan with aluminum foil. Make sure to have enough overhang for easy removal of the brownies. Spray with non-stick spray.

Prepare brownies based on package directions. Pour into baking dish.

Bake per package directions. Once cooked, completely cool brownies before moving onto next steps.

Once cooled, remove brownies from the pan. Cut into three even rows.

Cut one row of brownies into triangles.

Continue to cut the other two rows into triangles. Set aside.

Using a sharp knife, cut the candy canes into pieces for the trunk of the tree.

Push the candy cane stick into the brownie.

Remove the frosting from the container and place in a bowl.

Add drops of green food coloring until desired shade achieved.

Put tinted frosting into a resealable plastic bag or a piping bag.

Snip a small piece from the corner of the bag.

Squeeze frosting from the bag in a zigzag pattern.

Sprinkle Nonpareils over the frosting (to mimic tree lights). Take a star sprinkle and place at the top of the tree.

Enjoy!

The Results

A Pinterest pass! The trees are adorable and delicious. Using a boxed mix and premade frosting makes them super easy to prepare. This is a recipe little ones can help with too (once the brownies and candy canes are cut). We loved the idea so much, we decided to try it out with different colored sprinkles and frosting to get different looks. The outcome was just as cute… the options are endless!

Test Kitchen Tips

  • Cutting the candy canes with a knife can cause cracking. We tried just snapping them in half with our hands, the old-fashioned way, and it worked great.
  • We decided not to use the grid with skewers like Debbie does to cut the brownies. We found cutting the brownies into three rows and using a knife to cut the triangles easier and a timesaver.
  • Don’t limit yourself to just a Christmas tree. Use different shaped cookie cutters to cut the brownies into holiday shapes and decorate.
  • Using a resealable plastic bag is great. But, we liked the versatility of a piping bag. With the piping bag, you can add different tips to create different designs on the brownies.
