Summer Activities for Kids

Wondering what you are going to do with the children once the last day of school hits? Here are some ideas to make sure the kids stay entertained and so do you!

Meals

  • Make colored themed lunches like orange lunches with carrots, oranges, and grilled cheese.
  • Teach the children how to make healthy smoothies and let them pick out their own ingredients. A great way to sneak healthy foods into their diet.
  • Teach them how to make a dessert with frozen popsicles, ice cream, and frozen yogurt.

Activities

  • Sign them up for all the water sports – swim, dive, even synchronized swimming teams through the local recreation center.
  • No pool? Sprinklers and a slip and slide will make the best memories!
  • Teach them the value of a dollar. Let them hold a car wash to earn some money. It sure beats standing outside selling lemonade in the hot sun.
  • You could also fire the housekeeper (even if that is you) and hire the children. Make it seem like a game by encouraging them to work towards earning something they really want.
  • If they aren’t too tired from all that swimming, get them involved in indoor activities like dance, gymnastics or even a summer bowling league!
  • The local library might host a summer reading program, encourage your kiddos to spend some time reading this summer.
  • Don’t forget how incredibly fun colored chalk can be.
  • Get a camera and teach them about photography. They’ll appreciate the beauty around them.
  • Drop them with the grandparents (just kidding, kind of).

Trips

  • Go to the zoo! If you’re lucky enough to have a zoo near your home, it’s a great way to spend the day.
  • Head somewhere cooler for camping or hiking adventures.
  • Head to the beach with floats and sand castle making tools in tow.
  • Take them fishing, even kids at a young age can enjoy this activity. Make sure to be safe and pack life vests.
  • Take little girls to get hair or nails done; they will have a fun time acting like mom!

Keeping the kids occupied doesn’t have to be a chore. Even the smallest activities create the best memories. Have any tips on how you keep the kids busy? Share them!
