Tips for an Awesome Thanksgiving Dinner Tablescape

It’s time to revamp your Thanksgiving table by upping its style. From silverware to Fall-fantastic accents to mixing patterns, here are our favorite trends for your Thanksgiving table.

1. Gold/Chrome Flatware

We are OBSESSED with this trend. Like seriously, we can’t even. Not only are these accents completely in right now, but they add this extra level of glam to your formal (or not-so-formal) dinner. Whether you choose gold or chrome, you’re going to make your Thanksgiving table 100% Insta-worthy.

Where to buy them:
West Elm
Anthropologie
Target
Crate & Barrel

2. Colorful Plates

We’re not saying to ditch those old boring/bland white plates, we’re saying you need to up the ante and add some pop! Whether you choose to add a colored charger (aka the plate underneath the real plate) or willow patterned plates (which we’re in love with and pair extremely well with gold or chrome flatware) or just commit and use Autumn-colored main plates, we know your table is going to stand out!

Here are some of our favorites:
Blue and White Willow Patterned Plates
Festive-Colored Charger
Textured Charger with Blue and White Willow Patterned Plates…we’re in love!
Patterend Plates (and the most adorable name cards)

3. Runner Bliss

Creating a beautiful runner is a balance of design and practicality. The first step is to figure out if you’re going to have a buffet-style dinner or a pass-the-dish style dinner. From there, we can talk runners.

Buffet-Style Dinner Ideas:
1. Fall Foliage Runner – In love. That’s all we have to say. The fall-tastic vibrant colors in this lovely runner seriously inspire us and are insanely beautiful!
2. All-The-Pumpkins (or apples) Runner – Get festive with these pumpkin-perfect runner. We’re seriously digging the painted colors and shiny accents. Definitely a great way to decorate your Thanksgiving table and add dimension!
3. Kraft Paper Runner – We’re pretty much obsessed with this idea. It’s similar to the chalkboard paper idea because you can use your (or your kiddos’) creativity to jazz it up. From hand-drawn plates/silverware to things we’re thankful for, it’s a great way to add a personal touch.

Pass-The-Dish Style Dinner Ideas:
1. Basic is Best Cloth Runner – If you’re looking for a perfect foundation for your Thanksgiving-colored flowers and decor, then this is the best option for you. Plus, in case anything spills, you can just throw this in the wash!
2. Plaid Runner – How festive can you get? We’re absolutely in love with this alternative to the traditional runner. And we’re loving the idea of putting different plaid flannels underneath each plate…serious autumn perfection.
3. Skip the Runner Go For a Tablecloth – Ditch the table runner and just go for complete coverage. With a fun, festive-colored tablecloth, you get to let the tablecloth do most of the design work. This will leave plenty of space for the turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and more!

P.S. Have a seriously wonderful wood table? Leave it bare and just add some flower power!

4. Place Cards

In case you’ve been living under a rock, this has totally become a thing…and we’re totally okay with that. It makes place settings cuter, takes out the stress of picking a seat and allows the host to control the unavoidable family drama. From adorable gourd name tags to rosemary wreath place cards to gold spray painted leaves, these name tags make a seriously adorable addition to your Thanksgiving table.

5. DIY Decor

You don’t have to spend all the monies on adorable Etsy finds…okay you can totally spend some monies (they do have realllllll cute things – especially of those who are like me and aren’t blessed with calligraphy skills). Now, on for the fun DIY projects – here are some of our favorites:
1. Pumpkin Succulent Planter – think how cute these would look around your house or on your Thanksgiving table! Or, instead of succulents, just go for some beautiful fall flowers!
2. No Carve Pumpkin Ideas – from push pins to glitter to chalkboard paint, decorate your pumpkins in new (and quite fancy) ways.
3. Apple Candleholders – we can’t even describe the fantastic-ness that are these candles. Simple and seriously adorable.
4. Thankful Mason Jars – we’re very much loving these simple and sweet painted mason jars! They’ll look crazy cute decorating your Thanksgiving table or sitting on your mantle!
