First, make sure to wash your hands with warm soapy water.
Use cold water to wash produce. If your produce is loose, a colander is great to use. Simply run the colander under cold water. Once rinsed, dry with a clean paper towel.
If washing the outside of a tough surface, like potatoes, run cold water and use a scrubber to get excess dirt off.
For vegetables like broccoli or lettuce, place them in a bowl with cold water and soak for 1 - 2 minutes.
