Ingredients
| 1 small | head red cabbage (washed & coarsely sliced) |
| 1 medium | onion, chopped |
| 3 | tart apples (granny smith are good) cored and quartered |
| 2 tsp | salt |
| 1 c | hot water |
| 1 1/2 Tbsp | sugar |
| 1/2 c | red wine vinegar |
| 3 Tbsp | bacon grease or butter |

Directions
Place all ingredients in crock pot in order listed. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours (High 3-4 hours)Stir well before serving.NOTE: may add any or all of the following, if you like:
1/4 tsp. freshly ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. grounds cloves
1/2 tsp. caraway seeds (optional)This should fit a 4-5 qt slow cooker
For larger (6 qt) crock pot, use large head of cabbage and add 1/2 C of apple juice
